Tasting Chateauneuf Du Pape in France
Chateauneuf du Pape is not only a popular French fine wine, it is also the names of one of the most well known wine areas found in the Cotes Du Rhone area of France. The area has 13 authorised appellations (which is quite simply a legally defined and protected geographical location used to identify where the grapes used in a wine are grown.)
There are many tasting cellars in the village of Chateauneuf Du Pape, which means that you can blissfully go from one to another tasting the wine all day! There are a few places in the village where you can stay, so you need not pay for a taxi or have a nominated driver. As mentioned earlier. Chateauneuf Du Pape is a fine wine and for that reason, ensure you allow for this in your budgeting. The wines can be in the region of £30-£50 in the area.
There is an annual festival, called "Fete de la Veraison" which celebrates the ripening of the grapes in the vineyards. This fun festival falls on the first weekend of August, so if you were planning on making a trip to taste the wine then, it would be better to avoid, or book your hotel or accommodation well in advance to avoid disappointment! Taking part in the festival might even add to the experience, so why not take advantage of it and go at this time?
As there are 13 appellations, you are certain to taste plenty of
Chateauneuf Du Pape. If you know someone who loves to drink Chateauneuf Du Pape and can't quite afford a wine tasting trip to the area, why not give a 75cl bottle of Chateauneuf Du Pape, a case of wine (if you are feeling generous!) or a wine gift set containing a bottle of this fine French wine?
