Has anyone seen the film, Bottle Shock with Chris Pine (the guy from the newest Star Trek film)? It was made in 2008, but I didn’t know about it until last night. I watched the film on Sky and was pretty impressed!
The basic plotline is about a wine maker, called Barrett and his son, Bo. The film is set California in the late 1970's and is about the early days of the Californian wine making industry. The film is loosely centred around the now infamous blind Paris wine tasting event in 1976. It is on this occasion, where French wine experts (who even today still favour French wines over international wines) did a blind wine tasting and unanimously voted the winner as, the Chateau Montelena, a Californian Chardonnay with buttery notes and a Smithsonian finish. At one point in the film, the white Chardonnay wine is unfortunately subject to the temporary condition, known as bottle shock, which is characterised by a brown discolouration of the alcohol. I did not know this, but bottle shock often occurs immediately after bottling or when wines are given an additional dose of sulphur (useful fact number 1!).
