Mothers Day falls on the 14th March in 2010. Mothers day is celebrated throughout the world, but falls on different days and months in various countries.
Mothers Day is important to most people as they show appreciation, love and affection for a women who has carried her child for 9 months and then has had a hand in raising her children.
The traditions of Mothers Day is believed to come from ancient Greek festival of Cybele a Greek goddess and mother who was worshiped. The traditions were also done by ancient Romans who gave gifts to mothers during the Matronalia holidays. In the 16th century Christians in Britain would go to church on the forth Sunday of lent or their mothers church. These are believed to be the historical background to Mother’s Day in today’s society.
