Sancerre wine takes it’s name from the town of Sancerre, located in the Loire Valley . The Loire Valley covers a huge area of France that follows the river from the Atlantic Ocean near Nantes all the way East and South almost to the Rhône. Sancerre wine is grown on the western slopes of the Loire Valley. The cooler climate here allows the grapes to ripen slowly which balances the sugar and the acidity well. Sancerre is produced from 10% Sauvignon Blanc grapes and it is described as a dry wine with high levels of acidity with predominant aromas of gooseberries and grass.

Sancerre is made from Sauvignon Blanc and is high in acidity and therefore pairs well with salty dishes, such as seafood, cheese, especially that is made from goat’s milk, “chèvre.” Green salads made with vinaigrette dressings also pair well with Sauvignon Blanc.
