Sauvignon Blanc Wine
The range of Sauvignon Blanc wine we offer comes from Chile (Las Montanas), New Zealand (Cloudy Bay), as well as France (Pouilly Fume and Sancerre.)
Sauvingon Blanc grapes tend to be fermented at low temperatures in stainless steel vats which maintains the full flavours in the wine. Sauvignon Blanc wines are designed to be consumed when they are young. In France, Sauvignon Blanc is grown in a number of regions, the most famous being: Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé, both of which come from the Loire Valley. However, the grape variety also grows well in Bordeaux. The cooler climate of the Loire allows the grape to ripen slowly, which balances the sugar and the acidity. The soil also affects the characteristics of the wine. For example, the chalk and the kimmeridjem of Sancerre and Pouilly give a more spicy, floral and mineral flavour. The soil that Pouilly Fumé grows on is more flinty and gives a smoky, gun flint aroma to the wine.
New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc
New Zealand has become famous for it’s production of Sauvignon Blanc wine, particularly around the Marlborough region. The Marlborough region is located in the North East of South Island. The soil here is sandy over slate shingles, which has good drainage and poor fertility which help in concentrating the flavours due to the low yields. Around the Wairau River Valley the soils vary and the variations produce different flavours in the grape from tropical flavours to hibiscus flavours in the wine. These particular conditions make New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc quite unique in terms of flavours. One of the most famous wines from the Marlborough region of New Zealand is
Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc which we sell by the case.
Chilean Sauvignon Blanc
The Chilean Sauvignon Blanc has it’s unique characteristic that is slightly less acidic than the wines of New Zealand and are more similar in style to the French Sauvignon Blanc. The Sauvignon Blanc is grown in the Central Valley of Chile. Casablanca is one region within the Central Valley where the Sauvignon Blanc comes from. This particular
Las Montanas Sauvignon Blancs high in acidity and has aromas of gooseberries, green apples and grass.
