I have never understood why people make such a big deal out of Valentines Day. I don’t like it. I’m one of these people that like to be made a “fuss” of all the time. One day a year is not enough for me. Especially when it’s commercial and man made. I had a look around the net to see what other people were thinking and I came across this article:
“So what does Valentines Day mean to you? I mean, is it really just a bunch of commercial garbage, and all about selling the American public piles upon piles of candy and hearts and expensive dinners and other garbage, or is it something that actually has some meaning for people. I asked a few random Americans to comment and here’s what they had to say on the subject:
Anne, 32 from New York: “What does Valentines day mean to you? Hmm. Well I guess it means that people are getting together and having a wonderful time. It means my boyfriend brings me some flowers and treats me like a queen for the day. Maybe we’ll go out for a romantic dinner and then a carriage ride around central park. Who knows? Maybe he’ll even ask me to marry him this year.”
John, 38 from Wisconsin: “What kind of a question is that? I hate Valentines Day. What does Valentines Day mean to you? I’ll tell you. My girlfriend left me on Valentines Day last year. She ran off with my best friend. I heard they’re even getting married. I hate Valentines Day and I wish they wouldn’t make such a big deal out of the stupid day. It’s just annoying.”
Lindsey, 24, from Florida: “Oh I just love Valentines Day. I think it’s one of the sweetest holidays. My boyfriend proposed to me last year on Valentines Day. He was so cute. He got down on his knee and asked me to marry him. I mean, I was dating this older guy before him and they were kind of friends, so we moved away, but now we’re so happy and we’re planning on a wedding this coming Valentines Day. So what does Valentines Day mean to me? It means my family is flying down from Wisconsin for the wedding.”
Well, there you have it. Of course, for everyone Valentines Day means something else. To some, it’s a time to rejoice, to some its crass commercialism and for some, it’s a time to break up with older boyfriends and then move across the country. Whatever Valentines Day means to you though, make sure that you treat that special someone in your life to a good time. He or she deserves it. After-all, it’s not easy to find love in this crazy mixed up world of ours, is it?”
From that it looks like it depends on the person and the experiences you’ve had on Valentines Day. I’ve had some not nice things happen and perhaps that’s why I don’t see the point in it and I like to feel loved all the time. Who knows? But all I can say is if you are going to do the whole Valentines Day malarkey make sure you do it in style. And show that person just how much they mean to you by doing something totally special and something they would never expect. If all you can manage is a box of chocolates and a crappy card. Don’t bother. That person needs to know how much you care about them and there are so many simple yet effective ways to do it. If it was me then a bottle of
branded champagne such as
Cristal or Bollinger would be perfect, but then again so would an
